11 Area Teams Highlight Jan. 7 KBCA Rankings

The 2019 portion of the high school basketball season got underway Friday night and with that the newest set of rankings have been released by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association with 11 area teams ranked.

The most ranked area teams comes in Class 3A, as five teams are in the top 10 led by the Nemaha Central girls who are the topped ranked team in the state with a perfect record of 7-0.

Two more Big 7 League teams join the Thunder in the 3A rankings on the girls’ side, as Jeff West remains at No. 5 at 6-1 while the Holton girls are right behind in sixth at 4-2.

On the boys side of the 3A rankings it continues to be Sabetha and Maur Hill-Mount Academy in the top 10, as the Bluejays are off to a 7-0 start and ranked second while the Ravens are ranked third at 6-0 with all six wins by 20 or more points.

In the Class 2A rankings a new team has cracked the top 10 on the boys side, as McLouth has jumped into the rankings at No. 6 after a 6-0 start setting up a huge matchup at Maur Hill-Mount Academy on Tuesday night.

Two more area teams remain in the 2A rankings on the girls’ side, as Jackson Heights is up to No. 3 at 5-1 while Jefferson County North is currently 6-1 and ranked seventh.

The final ranked area teams come in Class 1A on the girls’ side with the Centralia girls ranked fourth at 6-1, while the Frankfort girls are seventh with a 7-1 record.
