Nine Area Teams Highlight Feb. 4 KBCA Rankings

The final month of the high school basketball season kicked off Friday night and with that the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association has released the newest set of rankings with nine area teams named.

The most ranked area teams continue to come in Class 3A with the Nemaha Central girls leading the way with the top overall spot with a record of 14-1 after wins over Hiawatha and Royal Valley last week.

Despite a loss to Sabetha on Friday night the Jeff West girls remain at No. 8 in this week’s rankings with a record of 12-3, while the Pleasant Ridge girls are ranked ninth at 12-2 after wins over Maur Hill-Mount Academy and ACCHS last week.

On the boys side of the 3A rankings the Maur Hill-Mount Academy boys continue to cruise through the regular season with a perfect 13-0 record and ranked No. 1 in the state after three wins last week including a win over 2A No. 2 Bishop Seabury.

Two more area teams round out the 3A boy’s rankings with both teams hailing from the Big 7 League as Perry Lecompton checks in at No. 9 with a 13-2 record while Sabetha is 11-4 and ranked tenth.

The Class 2A girl rankings saw the biggest shakeup from last week, as Jeff County North has moved up to the No. 4 spot after a 47-44 overtime victory over Jackson Heights dropping the Cobras to the No. 5 ranking this week.

The final ranked area team comes in Class 1A on the girls side, as the Frankfort girls remain at No. 3 following a win over previously No. 5 Centralia Friday 59-49 with a record of 14-1.
