The Seneca Post 21 legion baseball team punched their ticket to the AA State Tournament on Saturday night defeating Doniphan County Post 55, 15-8.

Doniphan County survived back-to-back elimination games to get to the matchup with Seneca as they beat Corning 8-5 in the game prior.

Doniphan County needed to beat Seneca to force a winner take all game the next night but were unable to do so.

Seneca jumped out early and led Doniphan County 11-0 going into the bottom of the third inning. Doniphan County would try to rally as they would score six runs in the third to get within five runs.

That was as close as they would get the rest of the way as Seneca would score two more in the fourth and two more in the seventh.

Kolter Peterson and Jacke Macke combined to pitch the seven innings for Seneca with Macke pitching over four innings in relief.

Evan Olberding was named the McDonald's of Hiawatha and Seneca Player of the Game as he went 3-for-3 with a double, two singles, two walks, three RBI's, and three runs.

Sam Nordus reached base five times with two doubles and three RBI's, Carter Hajek drew four walks and scored three runs, and Macke reached base three times and scored three runs.

Logan Blevins for Doniphan County had seven RBI's in the two games on Saturday driving in three with two singles against Seneca.

The Doniphan County summer ends with a record of 15-11 while Seneca improved to 13-12.

Seneca and Hiawatha will get set to participate in the AA State Tournament in Hiawatha beginning on July 25. We'll have coverage throughout the tournament with broadcasts on 103.9 KNZA.
