It was a game of runs Tuesday night in Perry as Perry-Lecompton hosted Valley Falls, but in the end the Kaws pulled away for a 56-35 victory over the Dragons.

Perry-Lecompton looked poised for a dominant performance early, exploding out of the gate with a 23-0 run in the opening quarter. The Kaws controlled both ends of the floor and appeared well on their way to a lopsided win.

Credit to Valley Falls, however, for refusing to fold.

The Dragons regrouped in the second quarter, tightening up defensively and finding their rhythm offensively. Valley Falls outscored Perry 15-3 in the period to cut the deficit to 26-15 at halftime and shift the momentum heading into the break.

That momentum carried briefly into the third quarter, as the Dragons opened the half with a surge to pull within 28-22. But that would be as close as they would get. The Kaws answered with an 11-0 run to regain control and reestablish a comfortable cushion.

Perry-Lecompton took a 41-27 lead into the fourth quarter and never looked back, outscoring Valley Falls 15-8 over the final eight minutes to secure the 21-point win.

Macie Corcoran paced the Kaws with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Tatum Calovich added 11 points and nine rebounds. Perry-Lecompton dominated the glass, outrebounding Valley Falls 34-19. The teams combined for 42 turnovers in the contest.

Valley Falls was led by Gracie Conner with 11 points and seven rebounds. Chloe Cox contributed seven points, and Paisleigh Heinen added six points and five rebounds.

With the win, Perry-Lecompton improves to 11-11 on the season, while Valley Falls falls to 8-14. The Kaws will wrap up the regular season Friday at Royal Valley, while the Dragons will close their regular season at Jackson Heights. Both matchups are non-league contests.
