The Valley Falls boys basketball team has captured the Northeast Kansas League championship for the 2025-26 season, finishing league play with an impressive 9-1 record.

The Dragons’ only league setback came in a narrow one-point loss to Riverside on Feb. 10 — a defeat that ultimately proved to be their lone blemish in conference action. While Riverside controlled its own destiny down the stretch, back-to-back losses to Troy and Pleasant Ridge reopened the door.

The championship adds another milestone to what has become a strong stretch for the program. The Dragons are coming off a fourth-place finish at last year’s Class 2A State Tournament and once again appear poised to make a deep postseason run.

Valley Falls has been powered all season by a balanced and experienced core. Collin Kearney, a frontrunner for all-league honors, is averaging more than 19 points and eight rebounds per game, consistently leading the Dragons on both ends of the floor. Damian Cervantez has been equally vital, contributing more than 16 points and four rebounds per contest while providing steady scoring and leadership in the backcourt.

Flint Seymour has also played a key role in the team’s success, averaging 11 points and nearly seven rebounds per game, giving Valley Falls a strong presence inside. Junior Brayson Miller has emerged as a valuable contributor as well, adding more than six points per game and providing depth to an already balanced lineup.

The Dragons will wrap up the regular season Friday at Jackson Heights before turning their full attention to the Class 2A postseason, where they hope to build on last year’s state tournament success.
