Hiawatha boys basketball closed out the final week of the regular season in championship fashion.

On Thursday night, the Redhawks edged Silver Lake at home by two points to clinch the Big East League title — their first league championship in 16 years.

24 hours later, Hiawatha returned to the court for Senior Night and capped the week with a 57-49 victory over Riverside.

Friday’s matchup was competitive from start to finish. The Redhawks held a 14-11 lead after the first quarter and took a slim 27-25 advantage into halftime. Hiawatha stretched the margin to 43-38 by the end of the third quarter, but Riverside refused to go away.

The Cyclones opened the fourth quarter with a 9-4 run, tying the game at 47-47 with under three minutes remaining and setting the stage for a tense finish.

Hiawatha responded with its strongest stretch of the night. The Redhawks closed the game on a decisive 10-0 run to pull away and secure their 19th win of the season.

Ethan Morton led all scorers with 22 points. Braylen Siebenmorgen added 15 points, while Lane Kesler chipped in 10.

Siebenmorgen’s night was historic, as he broke the school’s single-season scoring record of 389 set by Matt Lock during the 2001-2002 season. He broke the record in the first quarter and finished the night with exactly 400 points on the season.

Riverside placed three players in double figures, led by Keagan Hughes with 16 points. Kobe Koehler added 14, and Ty'Zell Harrington finished with 10 in the loss.
