The Frankfort Wildcats are headed to the Class 2-1A State Baseball Semifinals after an impressive 13-7 victory over Southern Lyon County on Monday afternoon in KC.
The game featured plenty of early momentum swings before Frankfort took control in the middle innings.
Southern Lyon County (20-7) struck first in the top of the opening inning when Henry Tajchman drove in a run with an RBI groundout.
Frankfort (24-3) answered immediately with a four-run bottom of the first despite recording just one hit in the inning. Octavian Gude delivered an RBI single, while additional runs scored on throwing errors by the Eagles.
The Wildcats added another run in the second inning on an RBI groundout from Wes Anderson to build a 5-1 advantage.
Southern Lyon County responded in the third, rallying for four runs to even the game at 5-5. Two runs crossed the plate on bases-loaded walks while Brayden Lienemann added a two-run triple.
From there, however, Frankfort seized momentum for good.
The Wildcats plated four runs in the fourth inning, added three more in the fifth, and tacked on another run in the sixth to punch their ticket to the state semifinals.
Frankfort received major production from the top of its lineup throughout the afternoon. Henry Ketter reached base in all five plate appearances and scored four runs, while Anderson added three runs scored and multiple stolen bases.
Eli Ketter also reached safely in all five at-bats, including a double, and crossed the plate three times. Landon Schreiner delivered four RBIs, highlighted by a bases-clearing triple during the Wildcats’ pivotal fourth inning.
Frankfort will now face powerhouse St. Marys-Colgan in the Class 2-1A State Semifinals on Wednesday at 1:15 p.m. at Tointon Family Stadium in Manhattan.
