Former Atchison Standout Helps JCCC Win National Championship
Boston Bruce

Former Atchison standout Boston Bruce recently capped off what can be argued as the greatest junior college baseball season in history.

Bruce played a key role in helping Johnson County Community College capture its first NJCAA National Championship, defeating Blinn College 8-5 in the title game on May 29.

On the biggest stage of the season, Bruce delivered once again, going 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored. He finished the year on a torrid stretch, recording multi-hit performances in eight of his final nine games.

The Cavaliers' historic season will be remembered as one of the most dominant in college baseball history. JCCC finished 67-3 overall, setting both school and NJCAA records for victories in a season. The Cavaliers also shattered the all-time college baseball record with 219 home runs, compiled a 41-game winning streak, and led the NJCAA in seven major offensive categories: runs, hits, RBIs, extra-base hits, total bases, slugging percentage, and runs scored.

Bruce was a major contributor throughout the championship campaign. Appearing in 69 games, he batted .435 with 18 home runs, 89 RBIs, and 89 runs scored.

Before his success at Johnson County, Bruce built an impressive legacy at Atchison High School. A four-time First Team All-Meadowlark Conference selection, he helped lead the Phoenix to four consecutive league championships.

Bruce earned Meadowlark Conference Player of the Year honors as both a junior and senior and was named Kansas Class 4A Player of the Year following his standout senior season.

As a senior, Bruce posted a remarkable .632 batting average with 36 hits, including 12 doubles, three triples, and four home runs. He also drove in 37 runs and scored 36 times, cementing his place among the most accomplished players in program history.
