The 53rd Kansas Shrine Bowl was held on Saturday at Welch Stadium in Emporia.

Defense was the name of the game as the East would top the West by a final score of 14-7.

The East used three 4th-down stops in the second half and took advantage of three turnovers by the West in the first half.

More than half the scoring was done in the first quarter as both teams were able to get on the board.

The East scored first on a touchdown pass from Shawnee Heights' Aiden Scott to St. James Academy's Alec Jett from 24 yards out for the early 6-0 lead.

The West would score their lone touchdown of the game on a fumble recovery in the endzone by Derby's Houston Bowlin to make the score 7-6.

Savion Stone of KC Washington delivered a 27-yard touchdown pass to Blake Jay of Mill Valley for the East late in the first half which proved to be the final points of the game.

Austin Zeller of Jackson Heights provided an interception on defense for the East while Nemaha Central's Carter Hajek led the East in rushing yards in the first half.

Hajek finished the game with a team leading 13 carries for the East for 59 yards. Rossville's Conner Bush added two carries for three yards. Zeller was the punter for the East and finished with four punts averaging 37 yards per boot which included a long punt of 71 yards.

Holton's Cael Frazier led the East with seven tackles of defense while adding a tackle for loss. Zeller finished with five tackles, Rossville's Andre Johnson finished with five tackles, Axtell's Colin Shaughnessy finished with three tackles, and Osiris Unruh of Jefferson West finished with two tackles including a tackle for loss.

The win for the East was the third straight in the series, but the West still leads the all-time series 32-19-2.
