Atchison Tennis Takes Home Dual Over Hiawatha

The Atchison boys’ tennis team wrapped up the 2018 regular season on a high note Monday afternoon, as the Redmen took down Hiawatha in their home dual. The day was originally scheduled to be a triangular, but Maranatha had a conflict and was not able to attend.

Atchison won six of eight singles matches, with Jay Strieby and Nathan Stone each going 2-0 on the afternnon. Strieby won his matches by finals of 8-3 and 8-1, while Stone took his matches by 8-1 and 8-0 scores.

Brennan Wheatley also won his singles match 8-4, while Mason Sass rounded out the singles victories for the Redmen with an 8-1 win.

In doubles action Atchison finished the day with a 4-1 record, as Wheatley teamed up with Mikel Espy for the most exciting match which ended in an 8-6 win. Espy also teamed up with Jayden Allison for an 8-3 win, while Stone and Strieby got together for an 8-5 victory. Sass and Cameron Fridell picked up the final doubles victory of the day for the Redmen, as the two took their match by a final of 8-1.

The Redmen tennis team now gets set for regionals later this week, which is scheduled to take place Thursday in Topeka.
