Friday night had just three Northeast Kansas League teams in action with Sabetha and Hiawatha playing each other and Marysville hosting Beatrice (NE). 

Sabetha picked up a 16-1 win on the road at Hiawatha, while Marysville suffered their first loss of the season falling at home 6-3 to Beatrice (NE). 

Sabetha Uses Early Offense to Take Game Against Hiawatha
It was a matchup of experience and youth when Sabetha meet up against Hiawatha on Friday night and Sabetha capitalized on the free pass to secure the 16-1 win in four innings. 

Sabetha opened the game with the first nine batters reaching safely in the first inning leading to a 10 run first inning. After a walk and a hit batter, Brandon Brownlee delivered an RBI double for the first run of the game and then an RBI single by Joe Gruber followed. After the first two runs Sabetha drew five consecutive walks with three coming with the bases loaded as Sabetha ultimately drew seven walks in the first along with a hit batter and three hits to score 10 runs. An RBI single by Mason Spellmeier got Sabetha another run in the second and then in the third inning using two hits, four walks and a Hiawatha error Sabetha plated five more runs with a two RBI single by Spellmeier highlighting the inning. Hiawatha got their lone run of the contest in the bottom of the third after a leadoff walk helped lead to a run with Jace Grubb delivering a RBI double to get Hiawatha on the board but Sabetha finished the game via run rule in the fourth winning 16-1. 

Three Sabetha batters led the offense with multi-hit games as Brownlee was 3-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Preston Bruning went 2-2 with three runs scored and Spellmeier went 2-2 with four RBI, a run scored and walk earning him McDonald's "Player of the Game" on KNZA radio. Brett Stallbaumer went three innings as the starter giving up just one run on two hits and three walks with one strikeout. 

Hiawatha in the loss had Grubb go 2-2 with a double, while Conner Dean, Gavin Lierz and Ethan Earp each drew a walk. 

The win moves Sabetha to 5-0 to open the legion baseball season, while Hiawatha fell to 0-3. 

Marysville Suffers First Loss of the Season Falling to Beatrice
Marysville squared off with a non-league foe Beatrice at home and despite early runs for both teams it was Beatrice ultimately handing Marysville their first loss of the season as the game finished 6-3.

Beatrice jumped up early with two runs in the top of the first inning but Marysville had an answer but plating a pair of runs also to tie the game at 2-2. It remained tied until Beatrice produced a three run fourth and tacked on another in the fifth to lead 6-2. Marysville in the bottom of the seventh got a run back but fell short in the contest falling 6-3. 

Derek Roever took the loss on the mound tossing four innings giving up five runs on five hits and struckout five, while he went 2-4 at the plate. Marysville only mustered four hits in the contest while Beatrice had eight and overcame three errors. 

The loss moves Marysville to 3-1 to open the legion baseball season.
