Sabetha Girls Capture Tonganoxie Cross County Invite, Boys Take Fifth

The high school cross country season continued Tuesday afternoon as Tonganoxie hosted an invitational featuring several area teams, and the Sabetha girls had the best finish of any team winning the meet by over four seconds.

The Lady Jays were led by sophomore Hattie Lukert and senior Skyler McAfee, as the duo finished second and third individually. Lukert finished with a time of 21:18.21, while McAfee was a few seconds behind at 22:01.34.

Sabetha also had freshman Jaden Dorn and sophomore Kenzie Meyer take 12th and 13th, while senior Hunter Lowdermilk rounded out top 30 finishers for the Lady Jays finishing in 27th place.

The Atchison girls just had one top individual finish, as junior Adalyn Collins dominated the race taking the top spot by over 20 seconds with a time of 20:57.34.

On the boys side of the Tonganoxie Invitational Sabetha once again had the top finish, as the Bluejays took fifth place out of 10 total teams.

Sophomore Caden Dillon had the best finish for the Bluejays taking seventh place with a time of 18:09.08, while senior Henry Glynn wasn’t far behind finishing ninth in 18:24.84.

Next up for Sabetha is the Nemaha Central Invite Thursday, while Atchison has the Perry Lecompton Invite next Thursday, September 27.
