Six Area Teams Highlight Week Nine High School Football Rankings

The high school football regular season came to a close Friday night and with that the newest set of high school football rankings have been released with six area teams named.

In Class 3A it continues to be Sabetha in the top five, as the Bluejays are No. 1 according to the Cap Journal and No. 2 on kpreps.com.

Sabetha continued their state title defense with another dominating win last week, this time a 48-0 win over Royal Valley and are 8-0 with a Big 7 League Championship and a district title as well.

The 1A rankings continue to house two teams, as Centralia is No. 4 and Jackson Heights five in the kpreps rankings.

The Panthers won their sixth straight last week taking down Valley Heights 49-22, wrapping up a district title and TVL championship with the win. As to the Cobras they got by Lyndon 47-8, wrapping up a 1A district three title and are 7-1 on the season.

In 8-man DI Clifton-Clyde continues to hold serve in the top of the top five, as the Eagles check in at No. 2 according to both kpreps and the Cap Journal. Clifton-Clyde continued their dominance Friday night with a 46-0 shutout of Lincoln and are one of only five unbeaten teams in the class.

The 8-man DII rankings remained the same, as kpreps continues to have Axtell up to No. 2 right behind Hanover, while the Cap Journal has the Eagles at No. 3. The Eagles continued to put up points in bunches last week, moving to 7-1 with a 74-28 beating of Doniphan West.

Hanover meanwhile continued their dominant run as the No. 1 team in the state with a 46-0 win over Frankfort, as the Wildcats moved to 8-0 with their 33rd straight victory.
