It was a battle between brother coaches in the girls game and a couple verteran coaches at new schools in the night cap.  But, at the end of the night, Hiawatha completed a sweep at Troy in their first meetings in a long time.

GIRLS = Hiawatha 43, Troy 33

In a battle of 0-1 teams that combined for just three wins total last season, Troy grabbed an early 8-3 lead and was still ahead 10-9 after one quarter.  However, the Lady Trojans made only one field goal in the second quarter and connected on just two shots in the third period while being outscored 24-13.

Troy was plagued with 20 turnovers and like Hiawatha, played three freshman.  Macy Norris led the Trojans with 11 points on 7 of 9 free throw shooting while Holly Williams added seven points.

Hiawatha got 13 each from freshman Clara Lindstrom and Sarah Madsen while sophomore Kate Madsen scored all nine of her points in the first half.  The Redhawks improved to 1-1 despite making just 7 of 25 free throws as Coach Brady Jasper won the first meeting against brother Derek Jasper.

BOYS = Hiawatha 84, Troy 48

It's not only a new coach, but a completely different speed and style of basketball for the Hiawatha boys this season under Garry Smith.  The Redhawks forced 25 Troy turnovers and converted many transition baskets and second chance points to open a 22-10 lead after one quarter.  However, the second stanza was even better as Hiawatha put up 35 points, which was more than they scored in nine games last season.  In fact, their 57 point first half was more points than the Hawks scored in any total contest a year ago.

Leading 57-24 at the break, Hiawatha went to cruise control while improving to 2-0 on the season and had five players score in double-figures after four players posted at least 10 points in their first outing of this campaign.  Tyler Brockoff led the way with 19 points while Sage Meyer addeed 12, Caden Lillie delivered 8 of his 11 in the first quarter and Michael Moreno chipped in with 10.

Troy (0-2) was led by Tate Smith with 13 points while Reid Jasper had 11 and Bray Davies scored 10.  Kipp Jasper also had nine points for the Trojans in the loss and Coach Rob Londerholm played a couple freshman for a team that has only two seniors on the roster.
