Sabetha Golf Leads 12 Area Qualifiers for 3A State Golf

Class 3A Sabetha Regional – Results

Berths in the state tournament were on the line for area golfers Monday afternoon at the Sabetha regional meet and it was the host Bluejays coming away with the team title by 32 strokes.

The Bluejays won the regional title with five golfers inside of the top 15 finishing 1-2-3 with David Pierson winning the regional with a 76, Jesse Burger taking second with a 79 and Carson Ukele third with an 83. Sabetha also had Marcus Funk and Riley Lierz each shoot 88, with Funk taking seventh and Lierz eighth after a playoff.

Nemaha Central also qualified the entire team for the state meet finished second in the team category with four golfers inside of the top 15. Eric Hammes led the Thunder taking fourth with an 85, while Dalton Schmelzle shot an 88 and won a playoff to finish sixth. Hunter Feldkamp also shot a 92 to take ninth, while Bryce Uphaus rounded out the Thunder shooting a 93 to take tenth.

The Holton Wildcats also qualified three guys for the state meet, as Rafferty Folk finished 12th with a 94, Ryan Taylor 13th with a 95 and Andrew Morris 14th with a 96.

All qualifiers now get set for the 3A state meet which is scheduled for Monday, May 20 at Emporia Municipal Golf Course.
