Oskaloosa and Hiawatha Split Northeast Kansas League Legion Baseball Doubleheader

Just two weeks remain in the legion baseball regular season which continued last night for two area teams as Oskaloosa split a doubleheader with Hiawatha with the River Bandits taking game one 8-5 while Hiawatha won game two 9-8 on a walk-off.

Game one was heard live on 103.9 KNZA with Avery Gatzemeyer being named our McDonald’s Player of the Game, as he collected two hits, two runs scored, an RBI and was on base four times. He also got the win on the mound for Oskaloosa as he went five innings allowing four runs on five hits while striking out six.

Cade Norris and Isaac Lira each added two hits for Oskaloosa, while Gage Burdiek added an RBI.

In the loss Gabe Corbett had three hits and two RBI’s for Hiawatha, while Hunter Pavlish added two hits and three RBI’s.

In game two it took extra innings, but Hiawatha got an RBI single from Andrew Lierz in the sixth inning to walk-off Oskaloosa 9-8.

Hiawatha was once again led by Gabe Corbett who had two hits and three RBI’s, while Andrew Lierz added two more hits and two RBI’s.

Oskaloosa was hurt by two errors in the contest, but did get two hits and an RBI from Avery Gatzemeyer.
