Doniphan West Girls and Axtell Boys Cross Country Teams Earn First at Nemaha Central Invitational

Nemaha Central Cross Country Invitational – Results

The high school cross country season continued Thursday afternoon with area teams competing at the Nemaha Central Invitational and the Doniphan West girls along with the Axtell boys each picked up team victories.

The Mustang girls had three runners finish inside of the top 10 to lead the way with Elle Williams earning the best finish by taking third while Chloe Clevenger was right behind in fourth and Claire Cole sixth.

The best area finish on the girl’s side came from Centralia’s Olivia Kuckelman who took the top overall spot with a time of 21:15.20 while Washington County’s Natalie Harlan was 20 second behind to take second.

Axtell was the only other team to finish with multiple girls inside of the top 10 as the Eagles had Aspen Buessing and Jordyn Smith finish back-to-back in ninth and 10th places.

The girls’ race was rounded out by ACCHS, Nemaha Central and Maur Hill-Mount Academy as the Tigers had Victoria Caplinger finish fifth, the Thunder’s Kyndall Sextro seventh and the Ravens Caeli Haigh eighth.

On the boy’s side Axtell took the top team spot with four runners finishing inside of the top 10 led by Quinn Buessing who won the meet while Simon Schmitz finished right behind in second. The Eagles also had Mitchell Buessing finish fourth and Clark Werner sixth.

Nemaha Central was the only other team with multiple guys inside of the top 10 as the Thunder had Trenton Schmelzle finish seventh while Carter Lutz ended the race eighth.

The top five was rounded out by Wetmore’s Rasmus Nielsen who took third and Centralia’s Ransom Engelken who ended the race fifth.

After that the remainder of the top 10 saw Maur Hill-Mount Academy’s Cade Wilburn finish eighth and ACCHS’ Logan Rose 10th.
