The Jackson Heights football team entered Friday night off back-to-back losses which dropped them from the state rankings in Class 1A after losses to Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Olpe.

The Cobras just needed a spark to get the season back on track and they got just that on homecoming in Holton as Jackson Heights upset previously unbeaten and No. 4-ranked Valley Heights 26-12.

It looked like it was going to be an offensive shootout early on as the first three possessions of the game went for scores.

The Cobras took the opening kickoff and went on a six-and-a-half-minute drive which ended with a Dylan Thompson 1-yard run.

Valley Heights came right back with a scoring drive of their own churning off over four minutes before Cameron Beardsley found Evan Haines on a 17-yard strike. The Cobras stopped the Mustangs two-point conversion try and led 7-6.

Jackson Heights extended their lead to 14-6 just a few minutes later as Jason Bosley scored on a 30-yard run which was the final score of the first half.

After a scoreless third quarter Jackson Heights put the game away with two long touchdowns in the fourth as Bosley scored for the second time on a 66-yard run while Cooper Williams added a 44-yard run to allow the Cobras to gain control.

Valley Heights added their final score with just 1:50 left as Beardsley ran it in from two yards out.

Jackson Heights finished with 342 total yards of offense which all came on the ground, led by Jason Bosley’s 10 carries for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Dylan Thompson added 109 yards on the ground with a score while Cooper Williams tacked on 91 yards rushing and one touchdown.

Valley Heights had too many turnovers and penalties on the night and finished with 359 total yards led by Jake Yungeberg who ran 22 times for 149 yards. Beardsley also rank for 85 yards and a score while he was 4-for-14 passing for 51 yards and one touchdown.

Jackson Heights (3-2) ends a two-game losing streak with the win and will get Troy at home next week while Valley Heights (4-1) drops
