Hiawatha Girls, Sabetha Boys Capture Big 7 League Cross Country Titles

Big 7 League Cross Country – Results

The Big 7 League cross country meet took place Thursday afternoon at Hiawatha and the league titles were claimed by the Redhawk girls along with the Sabetha boys.

The Hiawatha girls claimed the league title behind four top 10 finishes led by Kate Madsen who won the meet by nearly a minute while Darcy Lierz finished second. The Redhawks also had Emma Boswell take sixth while Madison Gilbert finished 10th.

Holton finished second as a team on the girl’s side and added two runners in the top 10 led by Hannah Ent who finished third while Alayna Clayton was right behind in fourth.

The girl’s meet was rounded out by Jeff West’s Macy Tucker finishing fifth, Sabetha’s Jadyn Dorn seventh, Nemaha Central’s Kyndall Sextro eighth and Perry Lecompton’s Blaise Ball ninth.

On the boy’s side the Sabetha Bluejays captured the league title behind three top 10 finishers led by Tyreese Bishop who finished third while Cameron Harrell finished sixth and Braden Menold eighth.

Hiawatha added two more runners in the top 10 led by Justin Hodge who won the meet by over 30 seconds while Christian Shaffer added a seventh-place finish.

Perry Lecompton and Holton were the only other two area teams with multiple runners in the top 10 as the Kaws had James Bartlett finish second and Reece Sollars ninth while the Cats had Ben Bontrager finish fifth and Rees Robinson 10th.

The meet was finished off by Jeff West’s Conner Inman who finished fourth to round out the day.
