Six Area Teams Highlight Newest High School Football State Rankings

The high school football playoffs continued Friday night with third round action across all classes and six teams are still alive with all six ranked in the latest set of rankings released Monday.

After being put into the Class 3A rankings for the first-time last week the Perry Lecompton Kaws have moved up one spot this week to No. 4 after a 30-6 win over Prairie View.

A new team is into the rankings in Class 2A as Nemaha Central is ranked third in the latest poll after three consecutive strong wins with the latest coming in a 44-28 win over previously unbeaten Humboldt Friday night.

The Class 1A rankings also have a new team this week as Jackson Heights is into the rankings at No. 5 following a 42-10 beat down of Pitt-Colgan while Centralia remains ranked third after beating previously No. 2 ranked Olpe 22-20.

The final two ranked teams heading into the sub-state round come in 8-man DII as Axtell continues to be ranked second after a 76-26 win over Lost Springs-Centre while Hanover is third following a 62-30 win over St. Paul.

Two matchups this week will feature ranked area teams as the Cobras and Panthers will meet up in Class 1A while Hanover and Axtell will face off for the second time this season in 8-man DII.
