Highland Women's Basketball Coaching Staff Placed on Leave, Investigation Underway

The Highland Community College women's basketball staff and head coach BJ Smith have been placed on leave and the team is under investigation. 

According to a release from the college, the school became aware of possible NJCAA violations and is currently investigating the matter at hand. 

"We can confirm we have notified the NJCAA of possible violations. We are investigating the alleged violations and will not comment further until the investigation is complete."

The Highland women are currently 14-0 on the season under coach Smith who is in his ninth season and ranked sixth in the latest NJCAA poll released Jan. 13.  

Assistant men's basketball coach Jon Oler will serve as the interim head coach while the team remains under investigation.
