Nemaha Central 51, Jackson Heights 28

It was the only game on opening night of the seven-team Thunder Classic boys Tournament in Seneca on Monday and Nemaha Central looked very impressive in a 51-28 victory against Jackson Heights.  On a day that neither team had school, Andrew Leonard came out on fire and scored the first 11 points of the game.  The Thunder built a 16-0 lead and forced 10 turnovers in the opening quarter before Silas Holiday got the Cobras on the board with a trey to end the first frame.  Nemaha Central led 29-7 at halftime and forced 18 turnovers while holding Jackson Heights to just three field goals.

Leonard finished with a career high 26 points and didn't play the final 10 minutes of the game and the Thunder improved their record to 6-2 on the season. He was the "Player to Bank On," sponsored by the Citizens State Bank and Trust Company of Hiawatha.  Nemaha will play Atchison at 7:00 PM on Thursday in pool play.

Jackson Heights was led by Dylan Thompson who scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half and eight of those during a running clock throughout the fourth quarter. The Cobras are now 2-5 on the season and are back in Seneca Tuesday to play Atchison at 4:00 PM.
