GIRLS

For the second consecutive year the Sabetha girls claimed the Burlington Invitational Championship as Saturday the Lady Jays took down Labette County in the final 55-23. It's the first time the Sabetha girls have won back to back titles at the Burlington tourney.

Sabetha jumped out to a quick 10-6 lead after one and extended their lead to 17 points going into the half holding Labette County to just four points in the second quarter.

The Lady Jays put the game away with a 19-4 third quarter which forced a running clock in the fourth quarter.

Sabetha finished the game with three players in double figures as Maggi Hughes, Kinley Schuette and Leah Renyer each finished with 11 points while Melinna Schumann added nine.  Melinna Schumann was named the MVP of the Burlington Tourney and joined on the all tourney team by Kinley Schuette and Leah Renyer for the Bluejays.

The Lady Jays are now 10-1 with the victory and with next be in action Friday, Jan. 31 for a big non-league clash with Silver Lake (5-5) who claimed the McLouth Invitational this past weekend.

BOYS

As to the Sabetha boys they were also in the Burlington Invitational Championship but fell just short to state ranked Rock Creek 63-53.

The Bluejays hung right with third-ranked Rock Creek throughout but got down 18-12 after one and had a hard time recovering.

Sabetha did outscore the Mustangs 18-16 in the second quarter and trailed by just two going into the fourth, but Rock Creek made just enough plays down the stretch to take the victory.

In a valiant effort the Bluejays were led in scoring by Gabe Garber who was a stud all tournament long as he finished the championship game with 29 points while Kaleb Grimm and Braden Argabright each added 10. Garber and Argabright were both named to the All Tournament team.

The Sabetha boys are now 4-7 overall and will travel to Silver Lake Friday for a game we will have live on 103.9 KNZA and online here.
