After Mother Nature forced the Thunder Classic in Seneca to be postponed for a few days last week the tournament wrapped up on Monday with the Marysville Bulldogs claiming the 2020 championship in a 66-41 victory over the host Nemaha Central.

The offenses were on full display early with Marysville getting up by as many as nine before the Thunder closed the gap to a 19-16 deficit after one quarter thanks to Kurtis Beck, Eric Hammes and Andrew Leonard each scoring four points in the frame.

Marysville took control from there as the Bulldogs pushed their lead to 10 at halftime behind five first half 3-pointers including three from senior Dalton Denner and two from junior Jackson Rader.

The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 19 after three quarter behind three more triples in the third and extended the lead to as many as 28 in the fourth quarter.

Marysville knocked down 10 3-pointers in the game and mixed in with Nemaha Central shooting just 10-of-30 from the free throw line was a recipe for a championship victory.

The Bulldogs (10-1) were led by Denner, Rader and Bryar O’Neil who each scored 12 points while senior Koby Schroeder added eight.

Nemaha Central got decent looks all night long but couldn’t convert at the foul line pushing their record to 7-3 overall.

The Thunder will next be in action Tuesday night when they travel to Jeff West for a makeup game from a few weeks ago.
