It was another busy night of action around the area last night and Twin Valley League continued with Wetmore sweeping a pair of high school basketball contests over Onaga winning the girl’s game 54-28 and the boys 69-37.

GIRLS

Behind a strong fourth quarter the Wetmore girls picked up their second Twin Valley League win of the season in a 54-28 beat down of Onaga.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 13-10 lead after one quarter behind nine points from sophomore Kenzie Strathman and pushed their lead to nine at the half with an 11-5 second with junior Alyssa Bloom knocking down a pair of 3-pointers.

Strathman added nine more points in the third quarter including a 5-of-5 effort from the free throw line to push the Wetmore lead to 10 points going into the fourth.

The Cardinals put the game away with a 20-4 fourth quarter behind nine points from Bloom and nine Onaga turnovers.

Strathman led the Cardinals with 26 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the free throw line while Bloom added 18 points on three 3-pointers.

BOYS

From start to finish the Wetmore boys forced turnover after turnover and crusied to their first league win of the year taking down Onaga 69-37.

The Cardinals raced out to an 18-8 lead after one forcing 13 turnovers and Braden Henry notching nine points.

Wetmore took complete control with a 27-7 second quarter which pushed their lead to 30 points at the break behind forcing 25 turnovers and 14 first half points from junior Kael McQueen.

The Cardinals put the game away with a 19-15 third and forced a running clock in the fourth along with 40 total turnovers in the game.

McQueen led the Cardinals with 25 points on four 3-pointers while Eric Bloom added 15 points and Braden Henry 14.

The Buffaloes had two players in double figures as Caleb Dern and Jason Abitz each scored 10 points.

Next up for Wetmore (5-10, 1-7 TVL) is a home game against Washington Count Friday while Onaga (0-16, 0-9) hosts Blue Valley.
