Heading into the Class 2A State Tournament, many media members considered the Bishop Seabury Seahawks to be the favorites to win it all.

Unfortunately for the Valley Heights Mustangs that is who they drew for their first-round opponent and the Seahawks showed just why they are the favorites as they got up early and went on win running away for a 72-45 victory.

The Seahawks wasted no time jumping out in front leading 12-5 after the first quarter and quickly extended their lead to double digits in the second quarter by forcing six Valley Heights turnovers to lead 28-16 at the half.

Valley Heights played much better in the third quarter scoring 14 points, but Seabury took complete control with a 24-point quarter to lead 52-30 going into the fourth before leading by as many as 30 points in the fourth.

The Mustangs suffered 25 total turnovers in their loss but got a big game from junior Jackson O’Toole who scored 14 points on four 3-pointers.

Valley Heights ends the year with a record of 18-7 and loses just one senior who saw significant minutes in Tyler Wagner setting up next year for what could be another special season in Blue Rapids.

Valley Heights: Jackson O’Toole – 14, Trenton L’Ecuyer – 9, Tyler Wagner – 7, Cameron Beardsley – 5, Jake Yungeberg – 5, Evan Haines – 4, Bryson Kenworthy – 1.
