Four Coaches, Six Athletes Finalist for Sports in Kansas Player and Coach of the Year Awards

Sports in Kansas Player & Coach of the Year - Nominees

Postseason honors continue to roll in around the area and all-state awards are on the horizon with Sports in Kansas releasing their coach and player of the year finalist which features four area coaches and six players.

In Class 3A two coaches are up for Coach of the Year honors and both on the girl’s side in Nemaha Central’s Hadden Hiltgen along with Jeff West’s John Malloy after both coaches led their teams to the state tournament this season.

On the 3A girl’s side the Thunder are also represented by senior Alleigh Kramer who is up for Player of the Year while on the boy’s side Royal Valley’s Nahcs Wahwassuck is also up for the award.

In Class 2A the Valley Heights girls are well-represented with Head Coach Jordan Broxterman up for Coach of the Year while Sam Vermetten is up for Player of the Year.

Vermetten is one of three girls up for Player of the Year in 2A including Jeff County North’s Josie Weishaar and Jackson Heights’ Kylie Dohl.

The nominees wrap up with two in Class 1A as Centralia’s Roger Holthaus is up for Girl’s Coach of the Year, while Axtell’s Quinn Buessing is a finalist for Boy’s Player of the Year.

The winner of each classification is set to be announced on Sunday along with all-state steams as well.
