Cap Journal All-Star – Selections

The 2019-20 high school sports season officially ended a couple of weeks ago with the announcement from the Kansas State High School Activities that all spring sports would be cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Because of that, the Topeka Capitol Journal has started to release their list of the top high school sports athletes in the state by sport.

In cross country three area athletes made the list including two on the boy’s side in Jackson Heights’ Daniel Little and Jeff County North’s Trevor Pentlin.

The only girl’s athlete was Doniphan West’s Elle Williams who helped lead the Mustang girls to a state title last season.

In football 10 area athletes were named all-stars including five guys from the Big 7 League in Sabetha’s Gabe Garber, Nemaha Central’s Bryce Uphaus, Perry Lecompton’s Billy Welch and the Jeff West duo of Kauli and Pene Saili.

Three more guys earned nods from the Northeast Kansas League including Jack Caudle from Maur Hill-Mount Academy along with Carson Williams and Cooper Williams from Jackson Heights.

The all-stars on the football team were rounded out by two guys from the Twin Valley League in Axtell’s Quinn Buessing and Frankfort’s Garret Dalinghaus.

For the complete list of all-star teams as they become available for each sport click on the link at the top of this story while the awards ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, June 18.
