For the past two months the COVID-19 pandemic has cancelled all spring sports for area high school athletes including state basketball tournaments along with the full seasons for baseball, softball and track and field athletes.

Earlier this week the legion baseball season was the latest to be cancelled with the announcement coming from Steve Queen of the Kansas American Legion state committee.

This does not mean that The American Legion is prohibiting registered teams from playing, it just means there will be no state sanctioned zone or state tournaments this year.

The Northeast Kansas League is still hoping to play a league schedule for this season, but it will be up to local towns to determine whether it is safe enough to play.

If teams are allowed to play, games will likely not be able to begin until at least mid-June with an official announcement to come in the next few weeks.
