In a 2020 high school football season full of questions about health and Covid-19, the season would kick off with a bang. The Chapman Fighting Irish would be in town to take on the Bluejays of Sabetha. Both teams looking to get their first win of the year, would go back and
forth all night long. Each team would start the season off very strong, and try to keep the momentum going throughtout the entire game. For the Irish it was all about Trevor Erickson the quarterback who would lead his team to the hard fought 34-29 victory over the Bluejays.

After a good opening kickoff return by Kaden Dillon, Michael Gugelman would punch it into the endzone on the ground from 1 yard out. However Trevor Erickson wouldn't take long to make his presence felt, he would take the kickoff 73 yards to the house for the first score of
the year for the Irish (7-6). Sabetha would then turn the ball over on a fumble, and once again Trevor Erickson would find the endzone this time on a 2 yard touchdown run (14-7). After an interception, Trevor Erickson would get his 3rd touchdown of the game on a 1 yard run (20-7).
Right before the halftime break the Bluejays would get into the endzone on a 16 yard Michael Gugelman (20-14).

Sabetha would punch into the endzone and take the lead on a Kaden Dillon 3 yard touchdown run (21-20). But Trevor Erickson would go in from 2 yards out to give the Irish the lead back (26-21). The passing game for the Bluejays would help them get a score in this one, on a 8 yard pass from Kaden Dillon to Drew Schmelzle (29-26). The last touchdown of the game would go to the Irish as Trevor Erickson would get his 5th touchdown of the night on the ground from 2 yards out (34-26). Sabetha's final attempt would be a pass at the end of the game that would be knocked down on a 4th down play, and Chapman would get the win.

Trevor Erickson had 113 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns carrying the rock, Erickson also had the 73 yard kickoff return for the scoreas well.

For Sabetha, it was an all around team effort with Ross Duncan having a total of 85 yards on the ground, Michael Gugelman had 84 yardsand 2 touchdowns rushing as well for the Bluejays. Kaden Dillon would also have a total of 100 yards passing and 1 touchdown through the air aswell.
