After winning a Northeast Kansas League regular season championship the Jefferson County North Chargers were looking to add to that in their home 2A Sub-State Tournament on Saturday.

The Chargers did just that in dominant fashion, as JCN needed just two sets in each of their three sub-state matches to punch their ticket to the quarterfinals of the 2A State Tournament for the second consecutive season.

In the opening round the Chargers made quick work of winless KC Christian winning in two sets by scores of 25-5 and 25-9.

The second round was nearly identical, as the Chargers dominated again winning 25-14 and 25-14 to push them into the sub-state finals.

JCN would take on McLouth who just like the Chargers only needed two sets in their first two matches to reach the finals.

McLouth beat Riverside 25-18, 25-15 in the opening round and then pulled the upset over two-seed Maur Hill-Mount Academy 25-22, 25-22 to make it to the finals.

In the finals it was all JCN in the first set winning 25-16 before McLouth made it interesting in the second, but the Chargers continued their dominance and won the set 25-21 to earn their state berth.

The Chargers (32-5) will now have the opportunity to host their state quarterfinal match on Tuesday as they will welcome Wabaunsee to town for a best of five match beginning at 6 p.m.
