Coming off their thrilling comeback and hard-fought Sub-State Championship that included a bracket with five of the top 10 teams in the state, the Sabetha volleyball team stayed focused and on track by beating Big 7 foe Perry Lecompton for the fifth time this season 3-0. The Bluejays trailed 6-0 a couple of minutes into the match, but gained the lead at 10-9 and never looked back. The Jays posted a 25-16 win followed by a 25-17 and 25-13 victory to advance to the 3A State Semifinals in Hutchinson this Saturday.

The Jays again faced a bit of adversity in the second set after a 7-0 run put them ahead 11-4, as Perry scored eight straight points to take the lead. Yet, the Bluejays never flinched, staying calm and collected and Coach Abby Stueve didn't use a timeout the entire match as Sabetha quickly regained control and never trailed by more than three points at in point on Tuesday night in the state quarterfinal.

Perry ended their season with a 20-18 record and their first state tourney in volleyball since 1995. The Kaws have only a couple seniors that were part of the rotation at home Tuesday, with the majority of their team returning after a successful first-year under Coach Kyle Billings.

Sabetha improved to 36-1 continuing their best volleyball season and school history and advancing in State for the first time since 1999. Two seniors, Melinna Schumann and Leah Renyer, joined us on KNZA Radio and the Sabetha Channel and Rainbow live broadcast and their interviews can be heard on the attached audio as well as Coach Stueve exclusive pregame comments.   http://www.citylinktv.com/channel/sabetha-knza/

Sabetha is guaranteed five matches Saturday with pool play at 10:45, 11:45 and 12:45 followed by a semifinal and hopefully state championship. KNZA 103.9 FM Radio will again have live and free local coverage with exclusive interviews during all the state games in Hutchinson.
