After not seeing the field for three weeks due to various reasons, the Frankfort Wildcats entered their week nine, playoff opener against Lakeside not knowing if there would be rust.

Spoiler alert: there was not.

The Wildcats raced out to a 30-0 lead over the Knights and never looked back, cruising to a 60-14 victory.

After being forced to punt on their opening possession the Frankfort defense got a stop of Lakeside and took advantage with Gavin Cornelison breaking loose for a 43-yard run setting up a 3-yard touchdown run to give the Wildcats an 8-0 advantage.

Ethan Armstrong followed that up with two touchdown runs while Caden Dalinghaus added a 63-yard run and before you could blink the Cats were up 30-0.

Lakeside would get a defensive touchdown on a 12-yard fumble return for a score to make it 30-8, but with four seconds left in the first half Cornelison found Dalinghaus on a 33-yard strike to put the Wildcats back up by 30 going into halftime.

Lakeside would get an early offensive touchdown in the second half, but Cornelison and Dalinghaus would each add rushing scores while Cornelison found Ethan Armstrong on a 33-yard strike to round out the scoring.

Cornelison finished with 276 total yards of offense with four touchdowns, while Dalinghaus and Armstrong each added two scores on the ground and one receiving.

Frankfort is now 5-1 on the season and will travel to Beloit to take on St. John Tipton next week in the regional round of the 8-man DII playoffs.
