Doniphan West Girls Repeat as 1A State Champs to Lead Area Runners at State Cross Country

The 2020 high school cross country season officially came to a close on Saturday as area athletes competed as respective state meets throughout the state.

Class 1A saw the only state championship winning team as the Doniphan West girls made it back-to-back state titles with three girls inside of the top 11 as Elle Williams led the way taking second while Chloe Clevenger was fifth and Claire Cole 11th.

Jackson Heights added the only other top 15 finish on the girls side in 1A as Annie Allen came in 13th.

On the boy’s side the Cobras finished 10th as a team and were led by Daniel Little who came in sixth as the only area top 10 finisher.

In Class 2A the McLouth boys led the way taking third as a team behind a 19th place finish from Jared Plake, while Jeff County North’s Trevor Pentlin came in fourth and ACCHS’ Haeden Forbes 18th.

On the girl’s side in Class 2A, McLouth finished seventh as a team despite not having a top 20 finisher, while freshman Sydney Myers of Jeff County North was the only area top 10 finisher taking 10th.

In Class 3A the Sabetha boys finished fifth as a team while Perry Lecompton was ninth and it was the Bluejays’ Kalvin Evans leading the way taking 18th.

The best area finish came from Hiawatha’s Justin Hodge who came in 12th to lead the way.

On the girl’s side in 3A it was Sabetha and Hiawatha with the only top 25 finishers as the Lady Jays Leah Lukert came in 12th while Hiawatha’s Kate Madsen finished 21st.
