There was never a moment that Perry Lecompton wasn't in control and confident of a win against Prairie View for the second straight year in the 3A quarterfinals. The Kaws cruised to a 49-14 win racking up 415 total yards and holding the Buffalo run game to just 2.4 yards per carry on Friday night in Perry. Thad Metcalfe ran for 148 yards and three touchdowns while also passing for 139 yards and a pair of scores. Reichen Rush had an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and added 111 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Prairie View used a 68-yard halfback pass to pull within 16-6 in the second quarter but Rush returned the ensuing kickoff for a score to make it 24-6, capping a trio of touchdowns within a span of 34 seconds game time. Perry led 30-6 at halftime but fumbled to start the third quarter and the Buffalos capitalized to make it 30-14. Yet, Perry again had a great kickoff return as Dawson Williams ran 34 yards to set up a short field and seven plays later Williams caught a 20-yard touchdown pass to make it 37-14 heading into the fourth quarter.

Hunter Hess caught a screen pass and took it 71 yards in the second quarter and Jackson Payne had 45 yards on three receptions. Perry ran for 276 yards averaging seven yards per carry while holding Prairie View to 104 yards rushing and only 2-7 passing. The Buffalos finish the year 8-2 and had only five seniors (two starters) on their roster, so will definitetly be a stronger team next year.

Perry, the defending 3A State runner up, matched their best season win total improving to 10-1 and advancing to host Big 7 foe Holton in the semifinals for the first time since 2008. The Kaws beat the Cats earlier this year 28-14 in week three on the road, handing the Wildcats their only loss of this season. That game Friday at 7:00 PM will be broadcast on KNZA 103.9 FM with the winner advancing to Hutchinson for the State Championship game, where the Big 7 League has had a team represented for a fourth consecutive year.
