Local 4A Wrestlers Advance to Regionals

The Class 4A district meet for local wrestlers was held at Holton High School Saturday with several guys earning spots at regionals coming up this week.

The Wildcats had a wrestling in nearly every weight class qualify for regionals and two first place finishes from Jake Barnes at 113 pounds along with Konnor Tannahill at 195. The Cats also had second place finishes from Tucker Gilliland at 106 pounds, Cale Hein second at 113, Kayden Elliott at 126, Slater Skaggs at 132, Lucas Adcock at 138, Cayden Jackson at 145, Jayden Fletcher at 152, Trevor Bowser at 170, Dalton Roush at 220, and Dustin Chermok at 285. Garyson Booth also finished third at 160 pounds while Tyler Phillips was fourth at 182 to round out Holton’s regional qualifiers.

Atchison added seven guys to regionals this week after Archer Willis finished second at 120 pounds, John Collins third at 126, Jake Rebant third at 152, Nick Cairo fourth at 160, Ethan Watson third at 220 and Nathan Blakely third at 285.

Royal Valley added three more to regionals led by Kyle Riley who placed third at 132 pounds along with Matt Tracy fourth at 113 and James Bellew fourth at 138.

Three guys from Jeff West will compete at regionals after Theron Meyer claimed fourth at 106 pounds along with Keaton Shelman who was second at 182 and Ryan Oesterreich who was fourth at 220.

Perry Lecompton rounds out 4A regional qualifiers with eight guys moving on after Hunter Clifton placed third at 106 pounds along with Mason Bahnmeier third at 120, Caidon Quinlan third at 138, Christian Conklin third at 145, Thad Metcalfe first at 160, Mitchell Root third at 170, Gavin Monaghan third at 195 and Hayden Robb first at 285.

These qualifiers will now compete at the regional meet on Friday with the top four again advancing to sub-state with Friday’s regional meet scheduled to be at Jeff West beginning at 3 p.m.
