Big 7 League basketball on Friday night at the Roundhouse showcased the Holton girls using an impressive fourth quarter to secure a win while the Wildcat boys ran away from the Redhawks.

GIRLS = Holton 48, Hiawatha 38

This game was within six points throughout the first three quarters and tied 30-30 entering the fourth period. Saydee Tanking hit a trey to put the Lady Cats ahead 41-36 with 2:03 remainning and Lindsey Wisdom added a stick-back following a missed free throw to make it 45-38 with just under a minute left to help seal the deal and complete an 18-8 fourth quarter finish.

Tanking scored 16 points including all three Wildcat treys but it was sophomore Lindsey Wisdom that came off the bench and provided a huge spark posting a season best 14 points to help Holton improve to 6-10 on the season and 2-8 in league play. Macey Patch added 10 points to help overcome 15 team turnovers and just 7-17 foul shooting.

Hiawatha got 17 points from Clara Lindstrom including three triples in the second quarter when the Hawks turned a six-point deficit into a 24-21 halftime lead. BOYS = Holton 65, Hiawatha 36

Holton had by far their best offensive game of the season and maybe best all-around performance in a dominating road victory from start to finish. The Wildcats led 16-4 and never looked back posting a 34-18 halftime edge and outscoring Hiawatha in all four quarters to force a running clock in the final six minutes of the night.

Kale Purcel was terific with 26 points including a couple impresive dunks while also making a trey, going 5-5 from the line and dishing out four assists. Matt Lierz and Canon Karn each added 11 points as Holton won for the third time in four games and improved to 9-5 on the season and 5-3 in league play. The Cats made 12 of 13 free throws and completed a week with their highest two scoring efforts of the year after beating a ranked Royal Valley team 57-48 on Tuesday.

Carson Gilbert scored 17 points to lead Hiawatha but made only two field goals while going 12-13 at the charity stripe. The Hawks were 16-19 from the line total but struggled playing their third game of the week and second night in a row. Hiawatha is now 4-11 overall and 1-10 in Big 7 play.
