15 Local Wrestlers Qualify for 4A Sub-State Wrestling

Postseason wrestling continued over the weekend as regional tournaments took place and at the Class 4A regional meet at Jeff West several area athletes earned tickets to sub-state tournaments coming up this weekend.

The Holton Wildcats finished third as a team and qualified nine for sub-state with one regional championship from Jake Barnes at 120 pounds while Tucker Gilliland was third at 106, Cale Hein third at 113, Slater Skaggs fourth at 132, Jayden Fletcher third at 152, Garyson Booth fourth at 160, Konnor Tannahill second at 195, Dalton Roush fourth at 220 and Dustin Chermok second at 285.

Perry Lecompton was the only other area school with multiple sub-state qualifiers led by Thad Metcalfe who won a regional title at 160 pounds along with Hayden Robb at 285, while Mason Bahnmaier was fourth at 120 and Gavin Monaghan fourth at 195.

Atchison and Jeff West rounded out sub-state qualifiers in 4A with one each as the Redmen had Jake Rebant take fourth at 152 pounds while the Tigers Theron Meyer was second at 106.

Each of these qualifiers now get set for the sub-state meet coming up this Saturday which is scheduled to be held at Chanute High School beginning at 12-noon.
