Frankfort Sweeps Washington County on Senior Night

Friday night was the final opportunities for area Class 1A teams to improve their sub-state standings and at Frankfort High School the Cats ended with a sweep of Washington County winning the girl’s game 65-28 and the boy’s 57-47.

GIRLS: Frankfort 65, Washington County 28

The girl’s game was simply all Frankfort from the start as the Cats jumped out to a 19-4 lead after the first quarter behind seven points from senior Lydia Loiseau and two 3-pointers from senior Kacia Shirley.

Frankfort extended their lead to 23 points going into halftime as senior Mariah Broxterman got going scoring seven points in the second as the Cats led 37-14.

Shirley would knock down two more triples in the third quarter to balloon the lead to 37 going into the fourth quarter which forced a running clock the rest of the way.

Shirley led the Cats (15-3) with 16 points on four 3-pointers and was named our player of the game on 92.1 KMZA while Broxterman added 15 and Loiseau nine.

Washington County (8-8) couldn’t get anything going all night and finished with 17 turnovers led by Mia Cardenas who had 11.

BOYS:  Frankfort 57, Washington County 47

The boy’s game turned out to be an absolute thriller and felt like a playoff game as the Cats came from 14 down in the first half to win by 10.

Washington County could not have started the game any better jumping out to a quick 10-0 lead before ballooning their lead to as many as 14 and leading 19-7 after one behind eight points from senior Drew Buhrman and seven more from fellow senior Kobe Hoover.

Frankfort started their comeback immediately in the third quarter, outscoring the Tigers 16-4 in the second to tie the game at 23 at halftime behind six different scorers in the frame.

The Cats took the lead early in the third quarter and extended the lead to eight going into the fourth after seniors Aiden Gerstner and Gavin Cornelison combined for 10 points in the quarter.

In the fourth Washington County tried to make runs and cut the deficit down to three behind two big 3-pointers from Hoover, but Frankfort’s Samuel Gros scored eight in the fourth quarter to seal the deal for the Cats.

Frankfort (12-5) was led by Cornelison and Gros who each scored 13 points while the Tigers (6-6) were led by Hoover who had a game-high 19 points while Buhrman added 14.
