Hiawatha Girls and Perry Boys Win Big 7 Games

It was the final Friday of the high school basketball regular season at the Roundhouse as the Hiawatha girls and Perry Lecompton boys posted wins to complete a season sweep. 

GIRLS = Hiawatha 51, Perry Lecompton 35

The visiting Lady Kaws led 8-6 after a back and forth first quarter before Clara Lindstrom scored five quick points to spark a 10-0 Redhawks run that led to a double-digit lead. With a 17-point third period, Hiawatha took a 36-25 lead into the fourth quarter and Perry never threatened. 

The Kaws committed 11 of their 16 turnovers in the first half  and were led by Campbell Keller and Katy Hurd with nine points each. Keller hit three treys before Perry dropped their eighth straight game to fall to 4-14 on the season. 

Hiawatha got 18 points from Lindstrom while Darcy Lierz scored nine of her 10 in the third quarter and the Hawks hit seven three-pointers to improve to 10-8 on the season and 5-7 in the Big 7 League. 

BOYS = Perry Lecompton 63, Hiawatha 44

Perry Lecompton came out quick and started the game on a 10-0 run. Taking a 22-11 lead into the second quarter, the Kaws then went on another 9-0 run and held Hiawatha without a point for nearly six minutes in route to a 31-11 advantage. The Redhawks had 17 turnovers and never got back within single digits. 

It was the fourth straight win for the Perry boys who had great balance with Kaden Tarwater scoring a season high 15 points and Dawson Williams also doubling more than his season scoring average with 14. Parker Stone added 13 and Brad Robb chipped in 11 points as the Kaws improved to 10-7 on the season and 7-5 in league play. 

Hiawatha is now 4-13 and had only two players score until the fourth quarter when Alex Rockey posted nine points. Austin Coffelt returned to the lineup and posted 19 points to lead the Hawks while Carson Gilbert addd 14 points in the loss.
