Nine Local Wrestlers Qualify for 4A State

State tournament berths were on the line Saturday at Chanute high school for area athletes in Class 4A and nine local wrestlers finished in the top four of their respective weight class advancing to state this coming weekend.

The Holton Wildcats finished fourth as a team and are sending six to state led by Konnor Tannahill who claimed a sub-state championship at 195 pound while Jake Barnes was second 120 and Dalton Roush at 220. The Cats also received a third-place finish from Tucker Gilliland at 106 pounds along with Jayden Fletcher at 152 and a fourth-place finish from Dustin Chermok at 285.

Perry Lecompton added three more state qualifiers led by a first-place finish from Thad Metcalfe at 160 pounds while Hayden Robb added a second-place finish at 285 and a fourth-place finish from Gavin Monaghan at 195.

These qualifiers now get set for the state meet coming up on Saturday at the Tony’s Pizza Event Center in Salina beginning at 12-noon.
