Five Teams, Several Individuals Qualify for 2021 State Golf

Area golf teams opened the postseason Monday afternoon competing at respective regional meets and several individuals along with a few teams have qualified for state tournaments.

In Class 4A the Holton Wildcats qualified the team for state taking third place at Wamego led by Parker Crouch who finished in sixth place with an 84 while Canon Karn was 14th, Reese Holaday 18th and Carson Taylor 23rd.

In Class 3A Nemaha Central claimed a regional title at their home tournament and will send the team to state along with Jeff West who finished two strokes back in second place.

The Thunder were led by Cassidy Corby who shot 79 to take second while Carter Lutz tied for sixth, Aiden Broxterman ninth, and Isaac Lueger 19th along with Brandon Rogers.

Jeff West took second place behind sixth place finishes from Wyatt Barnett and Riley Morrow, while Josh Murphree tied for ninth and Colby Farrant tied for 11th.

Sabetha added two state qualifiers individually, as Riley Lierz took third with an 83 while Caden Lierz finished tied for 11th.

In Class 2A Maur Hill-Mount Academy qualified one for state in Carson Schroeder who took fifth with an 84, while Washington County’s Kobe Hoover finished in a tie for third to earn a spot into next week.

In Class 1A the Frankfort Wildcats claimed a regional title for the fourth straight year winning by 13 strokes while Centralia qualified the team for state taking third.

Frankfort was led by Joey Hardwick who took third with an 89 while Aiden Gerstner was right behind in fourth, Sebastian Thored 8th, Gavin Cornelison 11th and Grady Fox 14th.

Centralia had the regional champion in Trent Mars who won with a 78, while the Panthers Jude Conley finished 10th, Paxton Bowers 16th, Presly Bowers 17th and Kade Olberding 22nd.

These state qualifiers now get set for state next week with 4A at Dodge City, 3A at Hesston, 2A at Salina and 1A at Emporia.
