22 Local Athletes Qualify for Day Two of State Golf

State golf tournaments got underway Monday afternoon and 22 local athletes punched their tickets to day two today.

The best day one scores come in Class 1A with Frankfort currently in first place as a team led by Aiden Gerstner who is in second place after shooting a 79. The Cats also have Gavin Cornelison in eighth after shooting an 85 while Joey Hardwick shot 90, Sebastian Thored a 93, and Grady Fox a 103 with the entire team moving on to today.

Along with Frankfort the Centralia Panthers currently sit in fourth place as a team with Trent Mars currently leading the tournament after carding an impressive 78. The Panthers also qualified Jude Conley, Kade Olberding, Presley Bowers, and Paxton Bowers.

In Class 2A just three individuals qualified for today including Washington County’s Kobe Hoover who shot 80 while Maur Hill-Mount Academy’s Carson Schroeder and Lansdon Taylor each qualified shooting 88 and 89, respectfully.

The Class 3A tournament is led by Jeff West who qualified the entire team for day two led by Riley Morrow who is in the top 10 after shooting an 80. Joining Morrow today is Samuel Brunton, Colby Farrant, Wyatt Barnett and Joshua Murphree.

Sabetha’s Riley Lierz currently sits in 17th place after shooting an 83, while Perry Lecompton’s Kaden Tarwater and Nemaha Central’s Cassidy Corby each qualified for day two.

Each of these day two qualifiers will wrap up state tournaments today with 3A at Hesston, 2A in Salina and 1A in Emporia.
