In a defensive struggle throughout the Valley Heights Mustangs earned a key Class 1A district victory Friday night at Troy 12-0 spoiling the Trojans homecoming.

Valley Heights forced a punt on Troy’s opening possession of the game and after a good punt return from Trenton L’Ecuyer that set the Mustangs up in Trojan territory, L’Ecuyer scored from seven yards out for a quick 6-0 advantage.

From there neither offense got anything going in the first half with both teams racking up less than 100 yards of total offense leaving Valley Heights with a 6-0 advantage at the break.

Troy’s defense continued to get stops early on in the third quarter, but the offense did virtually nothing and the Trojans defense eventually broke giving up a 65-yard touchdown run to L’Ecuyer for his second of the night for a 12-0 lead going into the fourth.

In that fourth quarter Troy’s defense got multiple stops but again the offense was inept compiling just 13 total yards in the second half.

Valley Heights did force three Troy turnovers in the game and ended with 245 total yards which all came on the ground with L’Ecuyer rushing 26 times for 176 yards and two touchdowns.

Troy collected just 65 total yards of offense in the game as Cam Anderson was just 10-of-21 for 56 yards passing while the run game compiled just two yards.

Valley Heights (2-3) now has a big matchup at home against Jackson Heights, while Troy (3-3) will head to JCN.
