Nemaha Central Sweeps Perry Lecompton in Big 7 Opener

The Nemaha Central basketball teams swept Perry Lecompton on Friday to begin the 2021-2022 season. 

GIRLS: Nemaha Central 38, Perry Lecompton 22 

The Thunder led 9-0 after the first quarter and 17-9 at halftime. Perry Lecompton could never get back into it as Nemaha Central slowly put the game away in the fourth quarter. 

Addy Holthaus led the way for NC with 15 points and seven rebounds. Ella Larkin posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. 

The Thunder shot just 4/12 from the free throw line, committed 16 turnovers and collected 30 rebounds. 

The Lady Kaws were led by Taylor Damme with 12 points and six rebounds. They committed 24 turnovers, shot just 5/13 from the free throw line and pulled in 24 rebounds. 

BOYS: Nemaha Central 57, Perry Lecompton 48 

This game was tied midway through the fourth quarter before the Thunder were able to pull away with some key stops and free throw shooting down the stretch. 

The Thunder led 14-9 at the end of the first quarter and led 26-25 at halftime. 

Thunder would outscore the Kaws 16-8 in the third quarter but the Kaws fought back to tied the game with four minutes left before Nemaha Central was able to pull way for the win. 

Kurtis Beck led all scorers with 27 points while his brother Marcus Beck pitched in 12 points and 16 rebounds. 

The Kaws were led by Gunnar Ball with 13 points and seven rebounds and Evan Gottstein added nine points. 

The Thunder outrebounded the Kaws 34-21. 

Up next, Nemaha Central hosts St. Mary's on Tuesday while Perry Lecompton plays Fort Scott in the Paola Tournament.
