By Brandon Tadtman

The 3A Silver Lake Sub-State opened play on Monday night with First Round games.

It was the Hiawatha girls and Marysville boys picking up wins and advancing to Semi-Final games which will be played later this week.

Girls: Marysville 46, Hiawatha 51

This game was close down the stretch but had some runs by each team in the middle portions of the game.

Marysville opened up the game with a 10-8 lead after the first quarter. Hiawatha would dominate the second quarter as they outscored the Bulldogs 20-6 to take a 28-16 lead at halftime.

The Redhawks built the lead up to 31-15 in the early portions of the third quarter but Marysville battled back and got back to within a single bucket going into the fourth quarter.

Marysville had multiple chances towards the end of the game to spring the upset but Hiawatha was able to make a few stops and hit free throws to put the game away.

Hiawatha was led by Clara Lindstrom and Darcy Lierz each with 16 points while Sarah Madsen added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Marysville was led by Madison Ronnebaum with 12 points and 11 rebounds and Bella Rader chipped in with 10.

Boys: Marysville 79, Hiawatha 59

This game was an offensive clinic by the road Bulldogs as they hung up 23 points in the first quarter and cruised to the win.

Hiawatha didn't go away quietly as they got back to within six in the early portions of the third quarter but Marysville would go on a run to lead by 16 going into the fourth quarter.

Jack Lauer led the way for Marysville as the junior poured in 22 points while Peyton Smith added 19 points.

Hiawatha was led by Mario Alcalde with 15 points while Carson Gilbert added 14 points.
