Siebenmorgen's Record-Breaking Season Carries Hiawatha into Postseason
Braylen Siebenmorgen

What a season it’s been for Hiawatha boys basketball — and right at the center of it all is 6’6” junior Braylen Siebenmorgen.

Braylen has powered the Redhawks to their first league championship in 16 years, leading the way while averaging north of 18 points and eight rebounds per game.

Last week was simply more of the same dominance. He posted 20 points and 10 rebounds against Sabetha, then followed it up with 15 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Riverside. But that wasn’t all.

In the victory over Riverside, Braylen broke Hiawatha’s single-season scoring record, a mark that had stood since the 2001–2002 season, previously held by Matt Lock. And earlier this winter, he etched his name into the record books again when he poured in 36 points in a double-overtime thriller against Troy, breaking a single-game scoring record that had been untouched since the 1989–1990 season.

Now, Hiawatha heads into the postseason as the top seed in their sub-state with a 19-3 record, riding the momentum of a historic season.

For his leadership, record-breaking performances, and role in bringing a championship back to Hiawatha, Braylen Siebenmorgen is more than deserving of Athlete of the Week honors.
