Ben DeVader

The St. Marys boys basketball team advanced to the 2A State Tournament this past week after defeating Cair Paravel in the sub-state title game. 

It was a record setting week for Bears senior Ben DeVader as he helped power the Bears through the sub-state tournament. 

St. Marys would open the sub-state tournament with an 88-43 win over Northern Heights and followed that with an 89-65 win over Valley Falls in the semifinals. 

In the semifinal win over the Dragons, DeVader poured in a game-high 34 points with eight three-pointers. Not only did he surpass 1,000 career points in that game, but he also became the schools all-time leader in career three-pointers. 

DeVader followed that record setting game against the Dragons with 23 points and four three-pointers in the sub-state title win over Cair Paravel. Cair Paravel had won 19 straight games before the loss to St. Marys. 

DeVader this season is averaging 20 points per game and will lead the Bears into the 2A State Tournament with their opening round game in Salina against Thomas More Prep.
